The Advantages of Good Wine Storage
Storing wine properly is a very important part of collecting wine. When improperly stored wine bottles can fall and break or can spoil when exposed to the wrong temperatures or light. This is why many wealthy collectors will often build out specialized wine rooms or wine cellars devoted to their collections. For the rest of us who can neither afford a new temperature controlled cellar or a massive collection of expensive high grade vintage wines, a good wine rack or wine cooler will have to suffice.
When storing wines, there are a number of factors that you will want to consider as you look to find a location to store wines for medium and short term durations. First you want to find a cool place with a temperature range of 45 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit and a location that gets little or no daylight. UV light like sunlight can actually cause the wine to develop strange flavors that can detract from the drinker’s enjoyment.
